TFL cycling laser light

The claim is that expensive laser lights improve safety on bicycles.

I have seen no evidence for this, although it is alluded to as 'improving safety'. The claim was first made in 2015 and has since been repeated, most recently in a PR stunt last night.

Update 2016-10-27

TFL no longer makes safety claims about the Blaze laserlight, and the latest release mentions only confidence on the roads, for which they have survey evidence: https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/media/press-releases/2016/october/santander-cycles-light-the-way-for-jessica-ennis-hill-and-london-s-cyclists
